Weddings FAQ

Here you can find plenty of answers to common questions, but please get in touch if you don’t find what you need.

What is your style?

If you’ve been researching photographers you’ve probably seen lots describe themselves as ‘relaxed’, ‘informal’ or ‘reportage style’.  I’m not sure exactly how I’d describe my work, probably best to check my wedding galleries for yourself.  What I can say is that the way I work tends to be unobtrusive and discreet and I prefer to capture natural moments as the day unfolds.  While I’ll certainly interact with you during portraits, there will be minimal posing and direction.  It is definitely worth dedicating a bit of time to photography on the wedding day but I always aim to let you spend as much time as possible enjoying the day with your friends and family.  While I will capture the shots you expect, including all the little details you’ve spent so much time on, I’ll also be looking to record the moments you don’t see and the bits that make are uniquely you.

Do you do formal group shots?

Yes of course, but my advice is to keep these to a minimum – 4-8 is a good number.  If you want some ideas on where to focus we can advise.

How far will you travel?

Travel up to 50 miles from Oxford is included and I am happy to travel at 40p per mile.  If your wedding venue is more than 2 hours from Oxford an overnight stay may be required in which case this would be chargeable.  Please get in touch though, we try to be flexible and keep any costs to a minimum.

How do we book you?

Please get in touch with details of your date, venue and location and I can advise if I’m free.  I would then arrange to meet you so we can get to know each other and you’ll get the chance to ask any questions.  If you do book me we’ll be spending a lot of time together on the day, so it’s important that you warm to me as well as my work!  If you want to go ahead I would ask you to sign a contract and pay a non-refundable deposit of £200 to securei the date.

What happens before the wedding day?

During our pre-wedding consultation I’ll get to know you, what you like and don’t like and all the details of the big day.  I’ll also contact your venue to introduce myself and verify all timings and locations.  Where possible I will also visit your venue before the day to scout out the best locations.  You then have the option to have a pre-wedding shoot at a location of your choice (or we can recommend).  There’s no obligation, however it’s a good way for you to get used to being photographed, plus you’ll get some beautiful images of you together before the day!  A pre-wedding shoot normally lasts a couple of hours and we’ll visit a few locations.  Think of it a bit like a Sunday walk with a photographer in toe!  Check the galleries to get an idea.

What happens after the wedding day?

Aside from pro gear, insurance and the tax man, the main thing you are paying for when you hire me is my time.  I expect to be with you from 8-12 hours on the wedding day, but after that many hours will be spent selecting and editing your images.  We don’t specify a fixed number but I expect to handover at least 300 finished images.

How do we get our images?

We supply all images as hi-res files which are ready for printing, as well as a ‘web ready’ set perfect for emailing, facebook and online sharing.  All images will be provided in an online gallery for your guests to view and for you to download.  Typically we supply images as download only but if you want a copy on disc that’s fine, just let us know.  Images will be ready within 3 weeks of your wedding date.

Do you supply albums and artwork?

You are free to print your images wherever you choose, but we can also help you with beautiful albums and wall art.  These days many people spend so much time and money on their wedding day, yet don’t take the trouble to create some prints.  Whereever you get it, we think you images deserve to be in an album!
